
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources under the leadership of Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor has introduced a project which seeks to plant and nurture five million (5M) trees on June 11th,2021. The Green Ghana Day, as part of a master plan of the Green Ghana project, seeks to restore the forest cover of Ghana.
The agenda of the government to green Ghana by planting five million trees was also observed by the Tain District Assembly on the 11th of June 2021. it was part of the district plan to restore the forest cover of the Assembly and the people of Tain are very interested in this greening agenda of the government. The tree species received under this project include; Cedrela, Mahogany, Ofram, Mango, Coconut, and Cassia. Altogether, more than 4000.
The exercise culminated on 11th June 2021 when trees were planted on the premises of key District institutions which included the District Court, District Assembly office complex, and the District Police Headquarters. These served as the demonstration centers for the planting of trees in the district.
In her address delivered on the day, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. Lucy Acheampong said as part of strategies to restore the country’s vegetation cover to enhance the sustainability of our forest, the Government initiated the Green Ghana project.
She encouraged individuals, communities, churches, Assembly Members, agencies, and Nananom to capitalize on the project to plant trees around their immediate environment. The Hon. District Chief Executive further explained that seedlings have been distributed to all the zones in the district.
Both Omanehene of Nsawkaw Traditional Council and the President of Tain Divisional Council were present to grace the occasion and planted some trees to that effect.
