The Tain District is one of the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 12 of such in the Bono Region. With its administrative capital as Nsawkaw, the Tain District was established in August 2004 by Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2090.
It is located at the northwest of Sunyani (Regional Capital) and lies within latitudes 7 ½ and 8o 45` North and longitudes 2o 52` West and 0o 28` East.
The District was carved out of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly and in terms of land area, Tain District covers 1,829.84960 km2 representing 3.5 percent of the total land area of the Bono Region.
It shares common boundaries with Wenchi Municipal to the east, Jaman North District and Jaman South Municipal to the west, Sunyani West to the south, and Berekum Municipal to the southwest. It is also bounded by the Banda District to the north and La Cote d’Ivoire to the northwest.
The population of the District according to the Population and Housing Census stands at 88,104 with 43,508 males and 44,596 females.

The Tain District Assembly aspires to develop a viable, efficient and effective organization, working harmoniously with its development partners to deliver sustainable services to its citizenry.
 MISSION
The Tain District Assembly exists to improve upon the living standard of the people in the area by harnessing all available resources through effective collaboration with all stakeholders.

Green Ghana Project in Tain District

The agenda of the government to green Ghana by planting five million trees was also observed by the Tain District Assembly on the 11th of June 2021. it was part of the district plan to restore the forest cover of the Assembly and the people of Tain are very interested in this greening agenda of the government. The tree species received under this project include; Cedrela, Mahogany, Ofram, Mango, Coconut, and Cassia. Altogether, more than 4000.
